Summer is just around the corner and we all know the heat can wreak havoc on our skin and hair. Here are my simple tips and tricks to help keep you healthy, hydrated and feeling fine throughout the summer months.
Sunscreen should be a no brainer and the first thing you put on your skin in the morning all year round. UV Radiation is a lot higher in Summer than Winter and if you plan on spending a lot of time around the water you better Slip, Slop, Slap as the reflection from the water can increase UV damage by 25%! Water and sweat will also wear off your sunscreen so make sure you re-apply. I recommend a good SPF30+, I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Clear Face Sunscreen under my makeup everyday. It doesn’t have an oily texture and doesn’t make my makeup slide off.
Don’t forget the sun can also effect your tresses so make sure you are using a UV protectant. My favourite haircare brand Silk Oil of Morocco have just released a brand new range called the Argan Sun Shield Collection which consists of a Shampoo, Conditioner and Conditioning Spray. Also a super cute floppy hat doesn’t hurt either.
Hydration is key! Not only is dehydration and heat stroke big issues in the warmer months but upping your water intake also has amazing benefits for your skin and internal organs. It is recommended you drink at least 1.9 litres of water daily as it aids in digestion, absorption and even excretion. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and needs to be looked after, without water your skin will become dehydrated, tight and flakey therefore becoming less resilient and more prone to wrinkling. I suggest buying a cute water bottle you will want to take everywhere with you.
Hydration doesn’t just mean what you’re putting into your body, invest in a good quality moisturiser to use after you shower when the skin is still porous, allowing better absorption. I was recently given a bottle of Nayki Skincare ‘All Over You’ Body Oil which is a mixture of every beautiful oil possible and soaks in almost instantly.
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Summer beauty is the perfect tan and to get the perfect tan you need the perfect base. The easiest way to ge your skin ready is to exfoliate. I find the good old exfoliating glove works a treat but if you want to exfoliate, moisturise and treat the skin at the same time you can’t go past another favourite of mine by Nayki Skincare. Their range of Body Scrubs consist of organic coffee scrubs with extras like Vanilla Chai and Citrus and a Himalyan Salt Scrub with Green Tea and Jasmine. Not only will your skin be glowing but smell delicious too!
Nothing makes me feel more happy and confident than a fresh tan. For special occasions I get my done professionally but for everyday A Bit Hippy’s Natural Tanning Cream works wonders, you can control how dark you want your tan by using everyday or using on every second day or so. If your lucky and tan naturally don’t forget to apply the sunscreen liberally. Sunburnt, peeling skin is not cute :S
